Tonight: Friendraiser Focus – Family Promise House Concerts for the Homeless
By Seamus Gallivan
Tonight we return to the Sportsmens Tavern (326 Amherst St) – site of Wednesday night’s incredible installment of Song School – for our monthly Friendraiser, where good neighbors gather to connect and inspire. The free event will begin with open bar and networking from 6-7pm, upon conclusion of which we will introduce everyone, leaving the spotlight on staff and board members of Family Promise of Western New York, with whom we are planning a series of house concert benefits inspired by past Friendraisers. At 8pm, the Alison Pipitone Band will take the stage for their monthly rock n’ roll residence at the Sportsmens.
Family Promise provides a way for homeless families to receive temporary shelter, meals, and assistance while seeking their own independence. Together, it seems to us that house concert benefits are a good fit for the cause. Our premise for calling for support is simple – we’re looking for more house concert hosts to add to our solid existing list, and we’re calling for input of all kinds in making this series a winner for all beginning in the fall.
In other notes from The Good Hood, we’ll call for contributor and content leads for this website, and reveal plans for several upcoming events over the next two months supporting organizations such as Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Drop-In Nation Education, Give for Greatness, Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County, Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper, and an inaugural event branded in Buffalo but taking place far beyond…
