Announcing, Tributaries: Johnny Cash Birthday Bash, Supporting Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper
While the late, great Johnny Cash would have turned 80 years old this month, he’s achieved immortality through his music and message, and in salute, The Good Neighborhood continues its Tributaries series supporting Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper with a Johnny Cash Birthday Bash at Nietzsche’s on Friday, February 24th, 10pm, led by Buffalo’s foremost Cash conjurers A Band Named Sue and featuring four more bands across two stages performing all Cash, all night – along with an added element to connect to the waterways BNR promotes and protects.
Beloved for their boisterous monthly residence every first Friday happy hour at Nietzsche’s (248 Allen St), A Band Named Sue will serve an extended opening set of songs either written or performed by Cash, turning the back stage over to honky-tonk heroes the Steam Donkeys, who will begin a series of half-hour sets with no repeats. Shaky Stage will get rhythm in the front room before and after the Million Dollar Trio takes their guns to the back stage, and finally, the Country-Punk Extravaganza will lead us not-so-gently home.
Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper will receive a percentage of the $5 cover, as well as all proceeds from the multi-show raffle of a kayak donated by Buffalo Harbor Kayak. Winners at the Cash Birthday Bash and each of the next two in the bimonthly Tributaries series, all at Nietzsche’s, will be awarded other prizes and entered to win the kayak, for which the winner will be drawn in June.
“Johnny Cash is immortal – few artists in history command his level of respect and reverence,” said The Good Neighborhood founder Seamus Gallivan. “A Band Named Sue first suggested we organize a Johnny Cash Birthday Bash, which they’d played and I’d attended a few years back at the Continental Club in Austin. We intend to establish this as an annual event within the Tributaries series, and we’re grateful for Buffalo Harbor Kayak getting onboard to further support Riverkeeper’s goal of everyone having access to fishable, swimmable, and drinkable water throughout the Buffalo Niagara Region.”
